Teaching Goal: Mom is very important to God and to each child.
Scripture:
Proverbs 24:3-4
2 Timothy 1:4-7
Materials:
- Paper and pen
- Hand-made coupons or actual gift certificates for things Mom appreciates (helping with dinner, picking up toys cheerfully, a massage, a manicure, etc.)
- Play theme song
- Pray
- Review last lesson
- Lesson and discussion
- Words written in bold are when the leader is speaking. Feel free to use your own words.
Set Mom in a chair in the middle of the room in the seat of honor. Bring her something she will enjoy to drink.
As a family, we’re going to list all the things mom does for us (cook, laundry, taxi, teach, comfort, encourage, clean, watch our diet, heal us, earn money for us, grocery shop, buy our clothes……)
Now let’s list what mom does for her self (………)
Wow! Those lists sure are different.
Mom shows her unselfish love for us by serving us. She models Jesus’ love for us.
Jesus gave his life for us – He lived and died so we may live with Him in Heaven. Just like Jesus came to meet our spiritual needs, mom meets our physical and emotional needs here.
Like Jesus forgave us and continues to forgive us no matter what; Mom also forgives us and loves us no matter what we do.
Mom builds our house into a Godly home. Read Proverbs 24: 3-4.
- What is Mom’s tool kit? Wisdom, understanding and knowledge.
- What is Wisdom? Applying God’s word in the every day situations. Seeing life through God’s eyes – as God would look at things.
- What is Understanding? Knowing what is real and what is not. Knowing what is important and what is not.
- What is Knowledge? Going beyond facts. Mom knows when you are really hurting (feelings) and when you are not.
How does Mom help you live your life as God would want you to? She talks about God every day, asks us if what we do honors God, has devotions, prays for each of us, prays with each of us, etc.
The home is the most important influence in your lives, and mom spends most of your waking minutes with you. They say that 50% of your intelligence is developed before the age of 4. Mom is there!
Because God loved us first, He gave us the gift of His son. Because we love mom, we want to give her something to show her we love her. Give Mom the wrapped coupons to open (or purchased gifts or gift certificates).
Memorize:
God loves me,
So He gave me mommy.
