Teaching Goal:We need to keep growing spiritually throughout our lives.

Scripture:

Philippians 1:6  He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Materials:

  • Wood molding:  6’ to 7’
  • White paint
  • Marker
  1. Play theme song
  2. Pray
  3. Review last lesson
  4. Lesson and discussion
  • Words written in bold are when the leader is speaking. Feel free to use your own words.

Mark the piece of molding with your child’s heights at each birthday showing their physical growth. You may have to find these heights in medical records or a baby book if you have not been keeping a growth chart.  Mark the height of your child on the day you do this Family Time.

In the same way we mark our physical growth, we can keep track of our spiritual growth. Flip the piece of molding over and keep track of events that mark spiritual growth.  Ideas to track:

Birth                            Sunday school classes          1st mission project

Salvation                    Sunday school teachers        1st music special

Dedication                  Learning to give                     1st testimony

Baptism                      1st communion

If a child stops growing physically, parents seek medical help.  If a child stops growing spiritually, then parents need to seek spiritual help.

Hang the boards where the children will see them from time to time. On birthdays, mark physical growth.  On the other side of the board, as your children grow in the faith, mark events that symbolize their spiritual growth.

Memorize:

Spiritually grow,

Seek God to know.

 Close in Prayer
