I have always loved Easter, the Easter baskets, chocolate bunnies, the egg hunt, the Easter outfits. But now I remember that Easter is the holiday I was ‘Born Again.’ It was April of 1976 and I was in California visiting my parents and my sister and her family. We were sitting in church, and they were passing the Communion Basket.  As the basket wound its way toward me, my sister whispered in my ear, “Don’t take communion. You are not a Christian.”  I was dumb-founded. What did she mean, “I wasn’t a Christian?” I had been baptized as a baby, I made my First Holy Communion at the age of 7. But rather than argue, I passed the basket to my sister without taking communion. I thought I was a Christian, but then I realized I didn’t really know what it meant to be a Christian. However, towards the end of the sermon it all became clear when the Pastor explained what it meant to be a Christian and how to become a Christian. At the end I prayed along with him as I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. A few days later, I was baptized in a swimming pool along with other who had accepted Christ. From then on I have grown in faith and in love with Jesus Christ.

I still do Easter baskets, chocolate bunnies, and dying Easter eggs for the hunt, but now I know that my Savior died for me on the Cross and three days later He rose again and sits at the right side of God. I know that my sins are forgiven and that I have eternal life.

Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior? If not, pray this prayer with me:

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. In Your Name, Amen.
