Recently we celebrated Mother’s Day.   Tonight we are going to honor mom — honor means to recognize all that she does and say “thank you.” Moms are very important to God. Through mom, God teaches us love, kindness, patience, encouragement and forgiveness. Who was Jesus’ mom? Mary

ACTIVITY: God tells us five times in the Bible to honor our mother. The first thing we are going to do tonight is find out how much we know about mom and how much she knows about us.

The kids go with dad and answer the following questions. Mom takes the same questions and answers them in a different room.

What is the child’s favorite color?

What is mom’s favorite color?

What is the child’s favorite food?

What is mom’s favorite food?

Who is the child’s favorite friend?

Who is mom’s favorite friend?

What is the child’s favorite video?

What is mom’s favorite video?

What makes the child upset?

What makes mom upset?

What is the child’s favorite room in the house?

What is mom’s favorite room in the house?

What does the child like to do to have fun?

What does mom like to do to have fun?

What is the child’s favorite song?

What is mom’s favorite song?

Get back together and see how many questions the kids answer the same as mom and how many mom answers the same as the kids. (Experience has demonstrated that mom knows more about the kids. The questions help the kids learn more about mom.)

The Bible describes A NOBLE MOM. We are going to make a special card to honor mom.

On an 8 x 10 piece of light colored construction paper draw a heart. Write on top of the heart For Mother’s Day and on the bottom write I Give You My Love.

More than anything mom wants to know we love her and wants you to know how much she loves you. We are going to write statements inside the heart that specifically describe our NOBLE MOM and then put the child’s finger print and mom’s finger print next to each statement.

Proverbs 31:

vs. 15: Mom provides food for her family. What dinner that mom makes do you like the best?

vs. 16: Mom provides money for her family. When you think about mom working, what do you remember?

vs. 17: She works hard around the house. What does mom do around the house to take care of us?

vs. 20: She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. What does mom do to help others outside the family?

vs. 22: She makes the bed. Has mom ever made your bed for you?

vs. 25: She laughs. What was mom doing the last time you remember her laughing?

vs. 26: She teaches. Name one thing that mom taught you.

vs. 28: Her children and husband thank her. Write “Thank You” in the heart.

vs. 30: She loves Jesus. What have you seen mom do that shows you that she loves Jesus?

NOTE: Remember to put the child’s fingerprint and mom’s fingerprint after each statement you write in the heart.

In the Bible, Jesus’ friend Paul says of a young preacher named Timothy, “The faith you have in Jesus I have seen also in your mother and grandmother.”

Moms, keep this heart and remember that it symbolizes the heart of your child which you leave finger prints on everyday.

Kids, remember that moms are important to God and your mom is a special gift from God to help teach you and pass on the faith of believing in Jesus.

Memorize:

Mom leaves fingerprints on our hearts,

We will honor her by doing our parts!
